Aeschylus Posted May 21, 2004 Posted May 21, 2004 It's an absolute must for a vB science or maths forum for Html to be turned on in order to make equations more readable.
Sayonara Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 No it's not. The sub and sup tags are OK for the basics, we have Latex for more complex equations.
blike Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 Had*. I need to readd the function but I can't find it and neither can dave Hopefully it'll turn up somewhere. HTML doesn't need to be on. It's somewhat of a security risk sometimes.
Sayonara Posted May 22, 2004 Posted May 22, 2004 True, being able to render html entities is not worth opening the door for malicious javascript.
-Demosthenes- Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 I'm not for html or anything (I'm not even sure what it is exactly) Doesn't it have something to do with images? How could it be a secerity risk?
Sayonara Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 HTML is the markup language behind all webpages. See this webpage you're looking at? Virtually all of the structure is produced by your browser reading HTML. The most common security risk is that javascript or vbscript can easily be embedded in HTML to redirect visitors to other sites (which could be anything), write or read cookies, or run malicious commands on your pc.
admiral_ju00 Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 ........run malicious commands on your pc........ i still know a few tricks that would be fun(well at least to me it would, but i grew tired of computer pranks )........
Sayonara Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 I like the script that goes: 1 Open CD-ROM tray 2 Close CD-ROM tray 3 See step 1
admiral_ju00 Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 I like the script that goes: 1 Open CD-ROM tray 2 Close CD-ROM tray 3 See step 1 bleh. one of my favorites is open as many instances of IE as possible thereby causing a memory overflow and crash the computer hardcore there are many others
Sayonara Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 That violates the "Do No Harm" principle, so I'm not allowing myself to like that one.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Same here. It happened to me. (well, no memory problems, but there were windows sprouting everywhere!)
-Demosthenes- Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 So some one could make a link that if you click on it it could do just about anything to your computer? I think it's a bad idea.
Sayonara Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 You don't necessarily even have to click the link, depending on the script used and your browser's handling of javascript.
Martin Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 No it's not. The sub and sup tags are OK for the basics' date=' we have Latex for more complex equations.[/quote'] that sounds great, but blike said *had* latex should I assume that it is temporarily not available? as a test I'll try writing the Friedmann equation that uses the negative pressure of dark energy to accelerate expansion of U. [tex]\frac{a''}{a}= -\frac{4\pi G}{3}(rho + 3p)[/tex] didn't work. what did I do wrong? is there a help place or a FAQ place here at this board that would tell me what amenities for writing equations are available and how to use them?
Sayonara Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Latex is broken for the moment. The forum upgrade squished it. Afaik blike is working on getting it fixed.
Martin Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 Latex is broken for the moment. The forum upgrade squished it. Afaik blike is working on getting it fixed. [math]\frac{a''}{a}= -\frac{4\pi G}{3}(\rho + 3p)[/math] I saw something in math forum from Dave about getting it to work
Dave Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 Yeah, it's now fixed. There's a short tutorial in the General Math section.
