ajb Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Does anyone have any recommendations for book on modern abstract algebra? They should include rings, fields, algebras, groups and their homomorphisms. I am looking for an accessible account of all the basics we should all know. Cheers.
Dave Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 If you find one, then let me know. I tried a while back and found it was next to impossible to find such a thing, for some reason!
ajb Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Maybe we have to lose the accessible constraint! Of course Dave, if I find one I will let you know. I have yet to have a good look at John A. Beachy's abstract algebra online. It seems useful at first glance.
Xittenn Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Although I don't see anything on rings Matrix Mathematics: Theory, Facts and Formulas the 2nd edition is now available. Looking through, it looks thorough and covers all the basics of algebras, fields, groups, lie groups and their homomorphisms. I'm sure rings are in there somewhere but the index is cross referenced more so with respect to the generalized theorem wherein such matters may be covered. I'm quite excited at it finally having arrived and am enthusiastically reading through it!
