The interactions nearly all consist of interactions with the electron cloud around the atom. At the energies used in diagnostic imaging, only two types of interactions occur, scattering or absorption. In absorption, all of the X-ray energy is taken up by the atom and is transferred to an electron, which is ejected from the atom. Thanks
