Reaper Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Anyone here familiar with Mnemonic devices? They are basically used to reduce the burden on rote memorization, and to make it alot easier in general. Anyways, how many of you here have practical use for them on a daily basis? So far I used them (in particular the Phonetic System) to memorize 500 digits of pi (Don't ask, I was bored one day...). I can send a link to that video if you want. Anybody else have a similar incredible memory feat that they can do using mnemonics?
mrburns2012 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wow that's incredible! I have such a bad memory that I'd forget the mnemonics before the mnemonics can help me remember the actual information.

I myself use the dominic system and the major system. <-- combined with method of loci. :3
jimmydasaint Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Horses for courses surely. What about mind maps, concept maps which use colour and imagery? My best students, some of which went to Oxford and Cambridge loved to make lists. They hated mind mapping and mnemonics.
