mooeypoo Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Interesting, thanks for the reference insane_alien.. but reading through it, that doesn't strike me as what the popular-culture term is used for. Not that it means "free energy" always means the pseudoscience meaning of it, I'm just trying to explain the source of my confusion. I will definitely read about it, tho, thanks.
insane_alien Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 yeah, i understand the source of your confusion. many crackpots have assumed that it is crackpot 'free energy' when they here chemists talk about gibbs free energy too. its just free as in available. like if you said your were free to go to the cinema tomorrow. doesn't mean you cost nothing. and you have to admit, gibbs free energy sounds better than gibbs available energy. even though both are just as accurate as each other.
ole Blake Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 (edited) The problem that I see with free energy is the language. While free means we generally do not have to pay money for it, it is a misnomer for many other things. Yes there are conspiracies, daily and in almost every clan of man, ranging form a conspiracy about how to get rid of that spinach on your plate so that mom or dad don't know about it, to gasoline prices fixing. We just don't have the means to expose most of them. Is there a worldwide conspiracy to keep (Free) energy off the market.. Not really. There are come conspiracies in place that will do every thing they can to regulate and tax it. As far as the being a technology the exemplifies free energy,.,.well most of us ain't seen it yet. From my viewpoint anyone that says something can not be true is just placing themselves in a position to hear the words, I told you so. There are so many things we have not discovered yet. The universe is a big place and we just now breached the pin point of knowledge to be learned on the earth. Now when someone puts forth a theories or hypothesis, we can critique it only from our resources as individuals. For Instance I would never tell you that you could not grow snakes in your hair....after all I have seen pitures of Medusa. I do think it is highly unlikely though. I am not open minded...but I do have an inquiring mind, I am willing to listen to both sides of a story and if it needs to be proved to me...Then I will undertake to assemble the materials to do prove it one way or the other. But for me to state that it could not be done...nope... I have seen some strange thing in my life happen that I would have bet high dollars that could not happen. So I am not a skeptic either but you could classify me as researcher and a seeker. I listen to all but draw my own conclusions to myself. You never know when success is just around the corner for someone... and telling some one their idea is folly might be the worst thing you could do. Toleration is the virtue that all of us could learn. As to the spreading of Gossip..(what most folks do about conspiracies) it is best left outside of intelligent discussion. Tesla was a learned man..but not infallible,. but we all can and do benefit from his efforts. I believe there is a lot yet to be discovered from his patents and designs, we just have to look a little deeper then the surface. Well this post was to get my feet (foot, I only have one) wet. I have accomplished this so I retire for the evening. I look forward to the discussions and posts. Cheers ole Blake Edited April 14, 2009 by ole Blake grammar
JohnB Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hi ole Blake and welcome to the forums. ranging form a conspiracy about how to get rid of that spinach on your plate so that mom or dad don't know about it I solved that one years ago, now I just have to learn how to hide it from my wife. She won't let me have dessert unless I eat it. Nothing is unlimited, and, on top of that, conservation of energy and the laws of thermodynamics mean we can't get more energy than what we put in. Certainly nothing is unlimited, however a sufficiently large pool of energy may be viewed as unlimited if mankind couldn't possibly use it all. Wouldn't you agree? Secondly, Conservation of Energy and Thermodynamics may not apply, depending on how the "machine" actually works.
ole Blake Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Yes,, I concur. however space as we know it is so far unlimited, and who knows what it contains. All I maintain is that we have not seen all there is to see yet, and until we have learned all there is to learn. We only have background and background once said the world was flat. Those who would set limits have little imagination. My dad used to say "the sky is the limit.." but now it is much higher or more vast then that. The only really limit we have is in our thinking. I can remember (shows my age) when the only really big computer was UNIVAC.. now I have more computing power on my desktop then it had. So limits are made to be broken, Had to laugh at friend of mine the other day as he was explaining to his great grandchildren that people really did think that traveling over 100 miles an hour in a motorcar would cause the blood in the body to rush to the head and it would kill you to go that fast... Also...I believe that the ability of the government to raise taxes is also UNLIMITED.. (sorry just a pun) I really see no limits imposed on us except common sense to know when we have too much of something. Cheers ole Blake Still spinning my wheels..in the hope one will spin it self again....
byron84 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I'm just curious, is it accepted that the universe is expanding or is that mere theory? If it is accepted, then would that be considered as something 'unlimited'? Maybe irrelevant, but I'm curious. Also is there a limit to how far we can zoom in or out? I mean looking into a telescope, or a microscope. We keep discovering further in each regard - does it ever end? I think if one looks into history they will find that most major advances were done because someone dared to go against what was popularly believed to be true. So while we could argue infinitely about the terminology and definition of "free energy", it serves no real purpose that I can see (to argue about it). I did a quick Google search on Tesla and I found some interesting stuff: http://www.free-energy.ws/pdf/thermo_dynamics&fe.pdf Maybe someone that is more educated than myself could provide a well informed opinion about that PDF. I read through it but don't understand it completely.
