jgerlica Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Here is the URL to our site. It's a bit laughable I know, but we are looking for interested persons in the Milwaukee area. http://www.geocities.com/usmc_1371_3/index.html
Dave Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 That's a mighty fine circular saw you've got mounted on the front of the robot
jgerlica Posted May 25, 2004 Author Posted May 25, 2004 There truly is nothing quite so gratifying as the sound of an unbalanced blade spinning up to speed! The ensuing sparks and debris are nice as well!
admiral_ju00 Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 i despise that show. can anyone tell me why these things are called 'ROBOTS'??? when all that they are a fancy RC thingie on crack.
atinymonkey Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 I made an autonomous sumo robot at school. We were not allowed weapons (hence sumo) but it sill managed to cause a fair bit of damage.
jgerlica Posted May 27, 2004 Author Posted May 27, 2004 n. A mechanical device that sometimes resembles a human and is capable of performing a variety of often complex human tasks on command or by being programmed in advance. A machine or device that operates automatically or by remote control. A person who works mechanically without original thought, especially one who responds automatically to the commands of others. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Czech, from robota, drudgery. See orbh- in Indo-European Roots I believe they would qualify under the second definition.
Dave Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 i despise that show. can anyone tell me why these things are called 'ROBOTS'??? when all that they are a fancy RC thingie on crack. But they are great fun to pilot and destroy things with
Phi for All Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 What the hell happened to poor Lee? Is this what happens to the losers?
Dave Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I'm not exactly sure. It looks like someone tried to mount helicopter blades on the top of it?
Phi for All Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I'm talking about the small picture of Lee bloody and bandaged up at the top of his page. Is this just a theatrical pose or did someone forget to tighten something?
Dave Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Or perhaps the robots gained intelligence and tried to kill us? (he probably fell down some stairs or something )
jgerlica Posted May 30, 2004 Author Posted May 30, 2004 I have some new material on the site finally. I'm working on the "meaningful content," but alas I'm trapped at work. Perhaps I'll have it done sometime tonight.

See orbh- in Indo-European Roots I believe they would qualify under the second definition.[/quote'] To, me the first definition sounds more like an android. :-)Oh, and her resson they are called robots is because it sounds better than calling the show remote-contolled machine wars.
Dave Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 To, me the first definition sounds more like an android. Well considering an android is to all intents and purposes a robot resembling a human, it would do really.
Sayonara Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 I'm fairly certain a robot is defined as being "a machine that repeatedly performs the same task". Or that could be automaton
Dave Posted May 31, 2004 Posted May 31, 2004 My Computing A-level "definition" of a robot was similar to that one above. However, that course was a load of <insert random insult here>, so I wouldn't trust that.
jgerlica Posted May 31, 2004 Author Posted May 31, 2004 Here's the definition according to Merriam Webster. jgerlica Posted June 15, 2004 Author Posted June 15, 2004 OK, here's the plan. Use an automobile ignition coil with an output of ~1.2 kv to charge several 1000 uf capacitors rated at 400 v dc, in series. Should be interesting. Any opinions on this?
5614 Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 why dont you make a robot with a mini-tesla coil ontop of, go into the arena and discharge the tesla coil all over the other robots, you'd need a powerfull battery, but no armour of any other form of attack weaponary... the robots arent sealed, so theres no faraday cage, the skin effect wont come into play, as your only electroctuing the other robot, with the hopes of fryin its electrics, come on, all the robots are metalic and will conduct the electrical current, its a great idea!
jgerlica Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 The latest project is coming along nicely, that is if I don't over do the Scotch intake
5614 Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 what do you think of my idea, at top of this page? i think it is compatable with all the rules, it would be a wicked robot.
5614 Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 i dont seem to be getting many replies.... what do people think of building a robot with a tesla coil on top to electrocute the other robots? or is robot wars not in fashion here?!
