Why does healthcare cost so much? Like every year healthcare cost is so high .There is a shortage of doctors and the healthcare cost is so high .

A cost of a MRI or CT scan is extremely costly and governments are having a very hard time to give money to healthcare .

What is going on and why is it like that. Why is there a shortage of doctors.

Why was the 60's, 70's, 80's better than now with high cost and shortage of doctors.

I hear of long wait times in the ER why is that. Why is the cost so much higher than 30 or 40 years ago

The cost is higher for no reason other than inflation and higher salaries for doctors. Doctors get a higher salary because there are less of them. There are less doctors because it the school needed is expensive and because it is a hard job.

The government is trying to keep the country from becoming too socialist. That's why they don't give more money to healthcare.

One major component to rising health care costs is the fact that people are generally less responsible for healthy living habits. Junk foods should be taxed to discourage people from their junk food, overeating, nonexercising life styles. People cling to their bad habits and then go to a doctor to "fix them". Emphasis should switch to preventative practices. People need to be constantly reminded to eat right, cut out cigarettes and booze, and exercise.

And I thought it had something to do with(at least in the USA) how litigious we are as a society which forces malpractice insurance prices up.

Why does the government put cap so there is a shortage of doctors? only allow so many doctors a year?

And why have they not buid more med schools. When you look at the GDP heathcare get so little:eek:

If there is evidence for an intentional shortage of health care workers, to inflate their wages, that would be interesting news! Let's hear it.:)

I was reading some where on the internet that Canada spent more on healthcare in the 70's and 80's than the late 90's.

They also go on to say that the 90's in the US and Canada the goverment put cap on the number of doctors to drive the cost up and so there is a shortage of doctors.

Also saying the amout of money per GDP per healthcare is lower now than the 70's and 80's .And the US spend more on healthcare than Canada.

****** The thing is healthcare is a business base on who has the money for treatment and fat cats who profit of sick people with little money trickling back to by new med supply or cover cost. .

The shortage of doctors is artificially created to drive cost up.To fix problem build more med schools ,remove cap of enrolment to schools ,pay school tuition fees , bring immigrants in to work ,remove administration staff who make million a year ,lower wages to countries like Europe ,remove government and administration burecrats who jump in bad with intrest groups and business and make a million yaer being paper pusher .

But this will not happen in the US :eek:people want to be rich and yet thing they can get what other Europe countries can get in service that is just digging their own hole and the same thing is happing with NASA.

The car companies is other thing where people got too much money and too many benefits.

remove cap of enrolment to schools

I'll just point out that won't work - med schools limit enrollment because they don't have the time, staff, or materials for more students. Principle among these is cadavers - you want to be a doctor, you need to do Human Anatomy, and that means cutting up a cadaver and being tested on it. Bodies have to be donated *specifically* to the med school for this, and how many bodies you have determines how many students you can admit. Four students per body is about the limit - any more and it becomes a demo rather than an hands-on exercise.

There is shortage of professors ,teachers ,lawyers and judges. But I blame the goverment for this.

Why is too many doctors in Cuba and why does China and India pump out more skilled work.Kids from China and India work hard and get into more skilled work.

In the US science and medicine is lacking in schools .Look at NASA and rocket research and the droup out rates.

May be people are scared of skilled learning they think it is very hard and they will not get the help they need.

Considering the abundance of skilled workers in the USA today, and the consequently lower wages paid to these individuals, why should someone enter a science or medical field? Other than that they love the work that is.

Seriously, it is because our society values MBA's far more than scientific Phd's. I can say this because the primary way society rewards people for the value of their work is in how much the individual gets paid for said work. Just look at the multi-million (billion?) dollar golden parachutes some of these people get for running their companies so well, the taxpayers have to spend trillions to bail them out. Obviously, people with management and business skills (paid very upper six figure salaries to millions of dollars) are valued more than the science professors making, if they are lucky, a very low six figure salaries (more likely a mid-five figure salary).

It takes a very considerable amount of work to become a doctor or scientist (much more, I'm sure than to become a corporate executive). And I'm also sure a doctor works much harder than a corporate executive. Given this, why become a doctor? Go for the money and become an executive. Or save the time for your family and become a plumber. I'm sure there are many people capable of being scientists or doctors who see the economic and time commitments and won't pursue it because it simply is not worth it to them.

Can you please cite some sources for this? AFAIK, the US has more lawyers per capita than any other country in the world.

How many doctors is too many for Cuba? Who does India and China pump out more skilled work than? What do you consider skilled work?

wages are determined by supply and demand. It takes lot of schooling to become a professor ,lawyer , judges ,doctor , scientists and alot of people do not have what it takes to be one.If you want to be professor ,lawyer , judges ,doctor , scientists say than to your self eat ,sleep and study , learn and study and study and no time to go out with friends or party or you will not do well in school.

People from China or India know how hard life is ,how conpetive the world is , is there enough money to put food on the table or roof over their head , they come to the US for a better life and they are use to working hard and the government and parents teach discipline , give them high standards and promote higher learning.

You what to be a professor ,lawyer , judges ,doctor , scientists than from the time you get up to the time you go to bad read and read and just may be you get 80% of understanding what you raed.

It takes alot of work to be a scientist or doctor and most people do not want to spend 10 to 15 years in school to be one.No time go out with friends or watch TV.

Sure there are geeks who are very very smart and read some thing once and never have to go back and read it again or centric doctor or scientists that love it so much and so consumed in the work and anti- social that people call them geeks or nerds.

Why?

How many doctors is too many for Cuba? Who does India and China pump out more skilled work than? What do you consider skilled work?

I don't know why Cuba has more doctors more money the goverment puts into it, people working at walmart in the US get more pay than a doctor in Cuba by 3 times ,lack of enrolment mark in med school. You need 98% mark to be a doctor in the US and only 85% in Cuba ,lack of medical equipment in Cub like MRI's or CT' scan thant every hospital in the US has to have , old equipment , all the GDP in Cuba goes to doctors and nothing else.

I'm not sure but I do know Cuba is poor country and people get paid very little money skilled or not. They have alot of doctors but I do not know how well the doctors are train in Cuba or how outaded the hospitals are do they have MRI's or CT' scan so on.What is their health standards and do they have high med school standards so on.

Those third world countries may have alot of doctors but the pay is very very very bad and have outaded medical equipment ,low health standards ,and do not need high marks in med schools .

I'm sure this is a conplex quetions why healthcare cost so much and why there is a lack of doctors has there are many reason why .

I explain about China and India..

That face it grade 12 is going to get you no where and 3 or 5 years of school above grade 12 is nothing .There is a little culture happing in US that school sucks , it hard to learn and lot of work and afraid.

Doing the apollo there was interest I want to work for NASA or be a scientist and people got interest in space and space rockets but the past 30 years we are declining

The schools ,government and parents are not promoting medicine and science enough and do too school costing so much and culture of youth it hard to learn and lot of work be are not doing it.
