r1dermon Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 you wont need much to go 20meters...with BP, its highly recommended to use steel. not pressure rated PVC...
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 what bore is the launch tube? and what BP grade is it? BP Is a very good grade. It's very close to meal powder.
r1dermon Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 you might want to consider something a little bit coarser...something recommended for rifles...the stress from the QUICK burning mealpowder can blow your "launcher" apart. and thats not good. especially if you're using steel. i'd test without any projectile in it.
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Sorry i dont understend what bore means. Please explain. Thnx LP Aspirin
YT2095 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 the width of the tube appature. like a .22 bore on a gun
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 The width of the tude is 44mm and the projectile is 40mm LP
YT2095 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 use a light tissue packing around the projectile (saves gas waste), if your lifting powder is the same grade as mine and your mortar tube is a good 75 cms long, you`ll get away with about 8 to 10 grams. just rem to keep the Mortar burried bellow dry sand in a bucket when launching, you only need half it`s length sticking out. it`ll protect you against scrapnel if it explodes, I needn`t remind you of keeping a safe distance and objects between you and it.
boris_73 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 instead of using steel which might just basicaly turn into a pipe bomb why dont you use thick cardboard tubing which is alot safer and works
YT2095 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 yes, cardboard is great IF IT`S THICK/DENSE ENOUGH! and rem it`s use ONCE only! it may look all good and intact afterwards, and you maybe tempted to reuse it, DONT!!! it`ll contain stress fractures invisible to the naked eye, and end in a whole heap of trouble for you
boris_73 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 and in fact you can get cardboard tube free there is a shop called CPS (culcheth provisional store) near me about 2 miles away its a big local shop for people to get there food and at the top the are loads of differnt small shops which sell videos to herbal medicine anyway i was going around to any shops asking if they sold cardboard tubing for a "school project" and i came to a material shop and i asked them if they new any where which sold it so she went to the back came out and had about 10 roll's 1 1/2 meters long each and she just gave me them for free so thats basicaly it just ask and if you get lucky you get them free but just ask politely
YT2095 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Social Engineering isn`t a skill lost on me but back to Science, if you have 10 you can make 20, just cut them in half and use the cut end as the base, leaving the clean end as the muzzel. how thick is this tubing? anything less than a cm and dense packed you`re asking it!
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I needn`t remind you of keeping a safe distance and objects between you and it. I'll be a good 50 meters away. I'll use electric ignition for more safety Thnx for all the help Yt and Boris LP Aspirin
Gilded Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Tomorrow's newspaper: "Weird flashes seen in Slovenia - UFO?"
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Hehehe lol Nice one Gilded anyway I Just finished testing my miniature cannon. WOW The small glass ball flew to the other side of the yard right into the wall. There's a nice hole in the wall though. LP Aspirin
YT2095 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Muhahahahahaa "Nothing but Cardboard wreckage found at site with glass like particles ressembling fused Sand". "meanwhile, investings are taking place within the UK as a Giant Hole has mysteriosly appeared, the Police are now looking into it" LOL
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 This is what i call pyro humor LP Aspirin
Gilded Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Umm... You made a hole in the wall with a glass marbe or something? If the wall is made of something stronger than wood, I'm impressed.
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I hope you dont think it has gone through the wall No no no no It left a mark "little crater" on the wall. I'm still trying to go through the wall though LP
YT2095 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 velocity alone can do that though, take lead (Pb) for example, it can shatter house bricks when shot from a gun, yet without that energy you can write on a sheet of paper with a bullet
Gilded Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Hey Aspirin, next time try shooting a depleted uranium shell from the cannon. And find yourself a pine table so you don't have to damage the wall.
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Eh The wall was damaged anyway. So no harm done But i'll keep the uranium thing in mind. LP Aspirin
boris_73 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 this mini cannon is it one where you spray deodrrant into the back and fire it with an electric igntion if so use oxygen and propane it will have a much greater velocity but it will also nock you on your arse
Aspirin Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 None of that I made it my self I bought myself a water pipe some plugs to stuff 1 end of the pipe. Then i drilled a little hole in the pipe put some BP in the pipe Ram it nice in put a fuse in the hole and a little ball and ignite it. LP Aspirin
boris_73 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 thats basicly it except with out the use of black powder or a fuse and i am quiet sure the gas one is more powerful i mean 50% of black powder turns to gas where as propane is already a gas so a better explosion to force out the projectile
