Why did they stop giving elements reasonable names?

Hi Shadow

Ununbium is only a place holder until an officially sanctioned name can be agreed upon. This is a process that historically has been rather contentious. Looking at the trend in naming the previous "6d" elements, it'll likely be named after a rock star status scientist.

Bonedaddium does have a nice ring to it.

Mmm... Can you imagine Briancoxium? I hope I can make my great discovery soon so that I'll be eligible for the naming :)

Who decides the names? Is it the IUPAC?

Wouldnt' that be CarpeElementumNovus?

*COUGH! Tea sprays forth comically from mouth* CarpeElementumNovum, I should hope! Sigh... Next we'll be having "ad domum"... :P

I'm always skeptical of new things being created that don't exist in nature. Some things don't exist because they shouldn't exist.

Well, you never know. We thought antimatter didn't occur naturally, until somebody found it naturally occuring above a thunderstorm or something.
