Robin Hood Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I like these suggestions from Professor Poliakoff... Any thoughts?
Xittenn Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 What's wrong with Ununbium..........I like Ununbium.............I remember Ununbium......... Poof
Syntho-sis Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 What's wrong with Ununbium..........I like Ununbium.............I remember Ununbium......... Poof likewise... PLUS ITS LATIN!
John Cuthber Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I'm uncertain about naming it after Heisenberg. 1
UC Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Unobtainium! Well clearly they can't name it that, as they did in fact obtain it. I humbly propose sfnium. It would be funny to watch people try to pronounce it, too.
J.C.MacSwell Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I'm uncertain about naming it after Heisenberg. I agree. At least in principle.
insane_alien Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 lookwhathappenswhenidothisium either that or Frank. that would make for some interesting chemical names. and confuse chemistry students called frank. its win-win.
jdurg Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 How about "Yerdeadium" since if enough were produced for you to physically see it with your own two eyes, the radioactivity would make you dead pretty quickly.
UC Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 either that or Frank. You sir, have my undying support in this matter.
hermanntrude Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 about about quetzelcoatlium? then we could have a chemical symbol with a Q in it, which would be useful in making words out of elemental symbols
ydoaPs Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Well clearly they can't name it that, as they did in fact obtain it. I humbly propose sfnium. It would be funny to watch people try to pronounce it, too. In that case, you should be in favor of ydoaPsium.
hermanntrude Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 In that case, you should be in favor of ydoaPsium. no-one's in favour of that. /kick ydoaPs
proton Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I like these suggestions from Professor Poliakoff... Any thoughts? What new element?
DJBruce Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 What new element? The element Ununbium, atomic number 112, was synthesised at a lab in Germany and IUPAC recently recognized the discovery and asked the discovery team to propose a name.
hermanntrude Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 of course, it's widely accepted that all the elements up to 118 (except 117) have been discovered. It's just that IUPAC is a bit slow on recognising these things

Xittenn Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Copernicium for those of us who didn't hear! http://chemistry.about.com/b/2009/07/19/element-112-is-named-copernicium.htm
Theophrastus Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Copernicium for those of us who didn't hear! Aw damn, she beat me to it . I'm annoyed, personally. I don't really see what relevance copernicus has with chemistry. I was rooting for Paulinium, after Linus Pauling, though they might confuse the namesake, with Pauli- that could get rather screwy. How about nYdoaPsium. (not-your-dad-on-a-pogo-stick). (sorry, I couldn't resist )
