budullewraagh Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 i was thinking of making some H2SO4 using the following procedure; electrolysis; MgSO4 solution, Al cathode, Cu anode ->CuSO4 of course, some of the CuSO4 is actually Cu(OH)2 and H2SO4. my question is how can i get the reverse acid base reaction to be favored?
Crash Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 Shift the equilibrium through pH?pOH? Why do you want to do it this way, it seems awfully harder than say jsut buying some
budullewraagh Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 i've tried buying it; it's nowhere. explain your proposal
budullewraagh Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 i really dont want to work with SO2; it's quite toxic and i dont have the resources to work with...i dont have vanadium...plus, if you read the synthesis, you need H2SO4 to make H2SO4. i've seen that synthesis, but it doesnt work for me since i dont have the resources.
Crash Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Ok S8 + O2 --> SO2 SO2 + O2 <-- --> SO3 (exothermic, SO2 side is favoured!) SO3 + H2O --> H2SO4 (extremely dangerous fog! must take EXTREME caution) You only need Sulfuric acid to turn your new sulfuric acid into oleum (H2S2O7) to be safely transoprted
budullewraagh Posted June 9, 2004 Author Posted June 9, 2004 SO2 + O2 <-- --> SO3 (exothermic, SO2 side is favoured!) you need a catalyst for that reaction. i forgot what it is but i won't be able to find it. thanks though.
Guest erik Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 Take battery acid? It's H2SO4 not to conc. but would work if you got nothing else just a thought use it, don't use it.
