fafalone Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 AOL Instant Messenger (4.8.2790, probably other versions as well) reads files in the Internet Explorer cache that are not related to content used within the program. This can be verified by Windows error messages when files become corrupted and AIM attempts to read them.
blike Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 What do they do with this data? Has aol addressed it?
fafalone Posted December 10, 2002 Author Posted December 10, 2002 i dunno, i don't even know if the data is sent to the server, i just caught the bastard reading my cache constantly. because windows always gets these stop errors that instantly reset the computer, corrupting files, especially ones in the cache.
Sayonara Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 Well, that'll teach you to use AIM, won't it?
Sayonara Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Righto. I use Trillian simply because it means I don't need 5 separate clients open for Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, MSN and IRC. It does need regular updates to keep up with security threats though
