Sarkreth Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Where can I find some? I've found a few vendors for some iron mesh, but I'm looking for something more or less in the 10^-2 rectangle size range.
Klaynos Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 10^-2 What? Meters, Feet, microns? Units are important! 1
John Cuthber Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Since this is a scientific site we ought to be able to assume that where no unit is specified it's the SI unit; so he should be looking for chickenwire (hole size about 2*10^-2 M). Somehow I doubt that's right.
UC Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Cuthber- Where do you buy your chicken wire? Around here, what we call chicken wire has holes about 4cmx4cm. Metal mesh also goes by the name "hardware cloth" if that'll help you in your search.
Klaynos Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 My understanding of the term chicken wire would match that of John's. I also made the assumption of SI units which is why I asked, it didn't seem right.
Sisyphus Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Chicken wire comes in various sizes around that range, but isn't it generally a hexagonal grid?
Sarkreth Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) A few-hundred-microns rectangle size is what I meant. That's what I get for not going to sleep. At this point, I'm actually just wondering how feasible fine iron mesh would be. Is there a reason that no one seems to carry pure or almost pure iron mesh? Edited July 17, 2009 by Sarkreth
Sisyphus Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Is there a reason that no one seems to carry pure or almost pure iron mesh? I don't know, but it seems like oxidation would be a big problem for any very fine ironwork. What do you need it for?
Sarkreth Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 What do you need it for? Growing iron oxide nanowires.
