Syntho-sis Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Just out of curiosity, how many people on here consider themselves.. 1. Moderates or 2. Liberals or 3. Conservatives And why do you consider yourself that?
iNow Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Socially liberal, economically moderate, progressive and always open to a quality argument and will change my mind if one is made... regardless of the issue or my ideology.
Syntho-sis Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 Cool. I guess I would consider myself a progressive moderate.. With a few more conservative leanings than liberals ones.
SexyScientist Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Im a mixture, as long as theres equality for all, then Im quite happy. XOOX
DJBruce Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Conservative not necessarily republican more libertarian.
CDarwin Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 On Facebook I'm "Liberal, with reservations." I think that means that I take the generally liberal position on most of the issues cogent these days, but I have some reservations about the intellectual foundations of American liberalism (pragmatism, all that). I think.
AzurePhoenix Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 i have some really liberal tendencies, but I definitely favor a few conservative policies. I guess i identify more with and feel more like a liberal, but it's really dependent on the specific issue in question.
Sisyphus Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I'm definitely a moderate, but what kind is pretty inconsistent. When talking to conservatives I tend liberal, to libertarians I go mainstream moderate, and to traditional liberals I turn into a libertarian. Basically, I'm a contrarian jerk. When there's no one around to contradict, I'm a generally indecisive moderate pragmatic "liberaltarian." There are plenty of ideologies I'm willing to say are outright wrong, but nothing I can commit to being actually right.
John Cuthber Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I thought I was the board's resident Communist.
Sisyphus Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Shhh. Obviously we're all Communists. It's a poll about what we say publicly.
ydoaPs Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Shhh. Obviously we're all Communists. It's a poll about what we say publicly. I don't see any poll.
One of the Few Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I try to remain neutral but i must say i am a liberal, but i still think socialism is superior. I mean the EU's economy is 15% percent better.
rockman Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 According to the liberals, I am a far right racist extremist because I don't agree with Obama's policies! LoL! I'll probably soon be labeled a terrorist next for not agreeing to accept socialism! Sorry, but if I thought Europe was a better place to live, I would move there. It's not. Funny how I haven't seen any news stories of the poor American boat people trying to escape America and seek refuge in Europe! But....some people have a need for the government to tell them what to do and when to do it. Personally...I don't. So...I must be a conservative. Probably the wrong thing to be on a forum full of scientist, some of whom probably depend on government grants to fund their projects. Not that I'm against that in any way.
abskebabs Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 anarchocapitalist, so not even on the political map as far as the OP goes. I used to be a liberal in the classical, unperverted sense of the word, like Frederic Bastiat for instance.

Sisyphus Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I don't see any poll. Of course there's no poll. What would be the point? We're all red-blooded, God-fearing Americans here.
VivianLeeMIT Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Socially liberal, fiscally [very] conservative. You can call me Libertarian
One of the Few Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 well if you look at it like this is a science forum...e.g. liberals, note this is very stereotypical and I am aware that a great portion of this crowd is conservative. but this is just something i have observed with the current state of the scientific community. If I have offended anyone with this post I appologise, it is merely an obserebvation.
Severian Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I would by reflex say I am a liberal, but I am actually pretty inconsistent. Sometimes I think very conservative policies are best and sometimes really progressive policies are best. Sometimes I just want to rip up the rule book and start again.

I'd say the best policy is using your values to make decisions and set rules. The trick is finding reliable values that work for the common good of everyone.
