Lightingbird Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Ha I'm wondering what is going on. Jupiter was hit not to long ago. Now this: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2009/08/09/like-the-fist-of-an-angry-god/
Pangloss Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I saw a recent story about meteoric strikes on Jupiter as well, but I don't know if it's atypical or just due to improved technology and more time spent watching Jupiter and Saturn up close. Either way it's interesting, and that's when learning happens so it's exciting to follow. Thanks for the post.
DrP Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Good job we have the Gas Giants! They often catch any debris that comes into the solar system in their gravity pulls. This means that most things hit Jupiter and don't come in near the Earth.
