madcedar Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Does anyone know for sure that you can make ethylamine from acetaldehyde ammonium chloride? It's around on the internet a little bit but I have seen no real reference to such a procedure.
Fuzzwood Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Does another part of your recipe involve a benzene ring with 2 oxygens connected to the same methylene attached to it?
madcedar Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 Hey that's naughty he he he. Seriously, if I was doing that I would have just tried it myself and not asked here. Seems to me that the reaction between acetaldehyde and ammonium chloride wont go... but I'd love to know if it does.
Fuzzwood Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 *fetches his organic chemistry resources. http://www.organic-chemistry.org/namedreactions/eschweiler-clarke-reaction.shtm So it could work with an aldehyde, neither hydrogen of the formaldehyde is used in the reaction.
madcedar Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 Wow, thank you very much for the link and even for bothering to think about this little puzzle. Now all I need is for someone to do it in front of a camera and put it up on Youtube ha ha ha ha. Cheers
