Just a guess:

Jobs in measurement of air and water quality.

 

From wikipedia, we learn:

Environmental engineering involves water and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, and public health issues as well as a knowledge of environmental engineering law. It also includes studies on the environmental impact of proposed construction projects.

 

But if you want to make the world a bit cleaner, you can also go for chemical engineering (don't be put off by the pictures - clean processes also use lots of steel pipes). You won't do the checks. Instead, you'll develop cleaner processes. (You won't point out the problems, you'll be solving them ;) ).
