Severian Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I was recently involved (though my activities with the Institute of Physics High Energy Particle Physics Group) with the production of a booklet called "Particle Physics - it matters", which is trying to publicise a little why particle physics is a worthwhile thing to study. I would appreciate it if those of you who are interested in this sort of thing could take a look at it and give me any comments. I will be discussing it in an IoP meeting on Monday, so now is your chance to be heard!
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 What is the target audience of this? The general public, or people who are interested in physics and are considering studying it? That makes a big difference in any criticism I might make.
Severian Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 General public and politicians mainly. It is intended to show the public that particle physics is important, so that they can insist that the politicians give us more money.
Bob_for_short Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) I did not read everything. You can add that the particle theory development is still in progress since the elementary particles are not really elemenatry but strongly interacting (sticky) and there are lots of pacthes and patches of patches that need to be replaced with something more compact and rational.
