aman Posted December 29, 2002 Posted December 29, 2002 I just finished a real technical Sci-fi I couldn't put down. It's about evolution on a neutron star involving time, energy, gravity, and a little philosophy. Lots of diagrams in the back. Dragons Egg, by Robert L. Forward I recommend it highly. Just aman
blike Posted December 29, 2002 Posted December 29, 2002 I'm reading: "Web of Belief" (Quine) and "Time Travel in Einstein's Universe" (dunno author off top of my head).
grazzhoppa Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 I just finished reading the first "Dune" book. I got the ones I'm reading now from Christmas too. Stephen Hawking's "Universe in a Nutshell" Dean Koontz "From the Corner of His Eye" off and on books: Plato's "Republic" Analects of Confucius Both are slow reads.
blike Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Stephen Hawking's "Universe in a Nutshell" Plato's "Republic" I've just read both of those books within the past two months. Hawking's book was good, Plato's was slow. It was required reading for my philosophy course though. I ended up with a B- on the paper (but thats because my TA was a nazi)
Tom Mattson Posted December 31, 2002 Posted December 31, 2002 Logic, by David Baum Fields, by Warren Siegel Quantum Electrodynamics, by Walter Greiner

I dont really like Confucius philosophies. I like the Dao De Jing by Lao Tzu better, or Kauthilya's The Art of Wealth.

Adam Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 contradiction, qorans like an anger depiction riddled with words that with no meaning, cant believe what im reading muslims, like a open door, needs to be shut, reading there book, words like theyre out of there butt

grazzhoppa Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 I dont like analects actually. I dont really like Confucius philosophies. I like the Dao De Jing by Lao Tzu better, or Kauthilya's The Art of Wealth. I've been reading the Tao Te Ching (Dao De Jing, same thing different spelling). I'm doing one section a night cause it's so different from my way of life. I'm trying to learn from it, sort of like what some people do with the Bible, except I won't take it word for word
Giles Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Biogeography: An evolutionary and ecological approach The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov The Law of The Peoples by John Rawls The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn Principles of Development by Wolpert et al.

Its REALLY good, you should go get it. Thomas Cleary translated it. Kauthilya is the "Hindu Machiavelli and Aristotle". Also get "The Book of Leadership and Strategy" by Thomas Cleary translation. Its a Daoist classic, i like it better than the Dao De Jing aswell.

mister_me Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Started reading "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, by J.R.R. Tolkien for the fifth time. I can't get enough of it! Awesome movies, too. The Two Towers movie was way better than the Fellowship of the Ring. Lots of fighting. I cant stand reading way technical stuff like "Time Travel in Einstein's Universe". Makes me want to throw up. And muslims are bass akwards. They got everything screwed up in their qoran. They are irritating.
