andywood Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Last year I remember reading an article in Scientific American about a Big Bang alternative theory called the Big Bounce. It basically states that instead of a definite begining or end, the universe is actually eternally exploding then imploding back in on itself and then exploding outward again. I dont remember much else besides that from the article other than it worked because of some strange quantum physics that I was really confused by it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can expalin how it works for me?
iNow Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 The links on this site do a FINE job, and are rather accessible even if you haven't formally studied the topic: http://www.aei.mpg.de/einsteinOnline/en/spotlights/cosmology/index.html Reviewing those for a little while would probably get you farther than any short answer I could offer.
Arch2008 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I think that the OP means Loop Quantum Cosmology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loop_quantum_cosmology I believe that Martin is a real fan of this, so I will defer to his expertise.
iNow Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Indeed. There are a couple of links on Cosmology and quantum gravity in the URL I shared (which, funny enough, I got from Martin )
andywood Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Cool, that's a really interesting site. I think I kind of understand it, at least for a non-physicist-ish-type-person to get the main gist of the theory and how it works. Thanks!
