devrimci_kürt Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 A truck driver carrying chickens to market is stopped at a weighing station. He bangs on the ide of the truck to frighten the chickens so that they will fly up and make the truck lighter. Will his scheme work?Does it make any difference if the truck is open or closed?
devrimci_kürt Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 Does it make any difference if the truck is open or closed? I think , they are different..open truck is light.. right?
Zolar V Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 if all of the chickens were to at once put all of their pressure up on the top of the truck via flying, it would make minimal difference. only if the door was open. if the door is open then the opposite pressure the chickens are exerting would leave via that rout and not put the same pressure on the bottom of the vehicle thus contradicting any sort of lift it has.
swansont Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 if the door is open then the opposite pressure the chickens are exerting would leave via that rout and not put the same pressure on the bottom of the vehicle thus contradicting any sort of lift it has. Why wouldn't there be pressure on the bottom of the vehicle?
DJBruce Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 It won't work because the birds will still be exerting a force on the floor of the vehicle. I do believe that the Mythbusters tested this exact scenario in both the small and full scale, and came to the same conclusion. You might be able to find a copy of that video online.
Mr Skeptic Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 It will work only under the following conditions: The birds are flying and the truck is open to airflow. Also the air flow due to flying must not be hitting only the weigh station. The truck is closed to airflow, but the birds are falling. It will be neutral if they are flying at a constant level, and "heavier" if they are gaining height. For birds that are not so fat they can't fly, most of the weight will be the cages.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 What if the floor is made of mesh so the air can go through?
