Caleb Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I am just wondering if anyone is interested in flight simulators.
JohnB Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Do you mean the real ones, or just the games? If you mean the games, I'm a WW II fan myself. I just don't find modern jet sims fun. "Oh look! I have a radar contact at 100 miles. I'll just send off a missile." can't compete with a "turn and burn" at zero feet. Filling your opponent with lead at 50 feet range is much more satisfying.
Caleb Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 I acually prefer the modern planes when you dogfight. But when it does come to shooting from 100 miles away, thats when I prefer the older aircraft when they acually did something.
CharonY Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Back on the Amiga, yes. Their finest hour was nice in terms of dogfights.
zombieSquirrel Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I agree. Besides firing missiles, which do all the work and leave you with a small puff of smoke in the distance, I like flight simulator games too.
JohnB Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I keep an old machine that boots 98SE/XP just to play one of the older ones. "European Air War" with all the user mods is still an awesome game to play. Flyable planes is now around 300 types and user campaigns are from all over the planet. Spanish Civil War, Malta, New Guinea, Russia. There's something about the game that gives it an amazing immersive quality. (And it's hard to describe the feeling of going up with your Squadron of Hurricanes intercepting 100+ bogies. The sky is just full of planes and tracer everywhere.)
