emasesnepo Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Stem Cell Research has been hailed as the saviour to many diseases and disorders of the human body but is possibly still very much understood. I am currently undertaking some research into public thoughts on therapeutic cloning and stem cell research for my MSc. I would be grateful to you if you would spare a few minutes and respond to my online questionnaire about the subject. All information you provide is confidential and non-identifable. The link is: http://www.urbansea.com/s802/ and will be available for a couple of weeks from the date of this message. If you have any specific comments, either relating to the questions or your views on therapeutic stem cell research then please email them to me, at: scmail @ excite.com (removing spaces used to reduce spam). Many thanks, Steven
Tesseract Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Stem Cell Research has been hailed as the saviour to many diseases and disorders of the human body but is possibly still very much understood. What are you trying to say by that? "very much understood"?
MolecularMan14 Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Im now doing a debate in class about the USFG support of Stem cell research. I am now, fortunately, on the Aff. I KNOW for a fact that they will be running a moral imperitive for stem cell research. What im looking for are some awesome links for my arguements. Thanks!
Guest thesensei Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 You mean stuff saying why the benifits outweigh the costs, or moral obligations? Thats a good question.
MolecularMan14 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 basically yea. Ive found some nice articles about how it is ethical. But what of its benefits?
JohnB Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Will curing diabetes do? See this article. http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s104966.htm
MolecularMan14 Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Thanks much man It's really incredible what new research reveals about possible treatments for common diseases w/ stem cells. I honestly dont see any logical explanation for why people disagree with it
JohnB Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 I just thought I'd add I read a newspiece recently on a possible benefit. A South American woman (Argentina I think it was) suffered a major stroke which left her unable to speak and paralyzed down the (left hand?) side, so she couldn't walk unaided either. After an injection of her own bone marrow stem cells (from the pelvis) directly into the effected area, she can now talk again and left the hospital on her own two feet. I think the main problem people have with the research is the "source" of the stem cells. Most people are unaware of the existance of "adult" stem cells. I'm still mind boggled at the diabetes one though. I first it on the ABC radio where they interviewed on of the researchers. Even he was absolutely stunned at what happened, you could hear it in his voice.
ecoli Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 I read an article about a man who lost his chin (I think due to cancer?) They created a titanium mold and used stem cells to regenerate his chin.
