uncool Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 I recently have been told that I got a new message from here, but when I look, all of them are read, except for one with no title that says it was sent at January 1, 1970. I'm guessing that that is a bug. =Uncool-
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Hmm. Does it say who sent the message? This may be a consequence of me mass-deleting spam messages, but I'm not sure.
uncool Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 Hmm. Does it say who sent the message? This may be a consequence of me mass-deleting spam messages, but I'm not sure. Nope. Says absolutely nothing other than the date, which means I can't click on it to read it. Also, if it was from deleting spam messages, I got one which was never deleted. I deleted it, though, so... =Uncool-
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Ah, that'd be it then. I checked the database and there exists a listing for it in one database table but no corresponding title/text entry in another table. I deleted one without deleting the other, it seems. Next time I'll remember to be more careful when deleting spam PMs. Be sure to report them if you receive them.

It still tells me that I have a notification every time I log in... =Uncool-
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Ah, okay. Done. vB should have no recollection of that PM anymore.
uncool Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 Ah, okay. Done. vB should have no recollection of that PM anymore. It appears to not remember the PM in my inbox, but it's still in notifications apparently. =Uncool-
swansont Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I, too, have a notification but no message.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 How about now? I'll need to find a way of fixing the unread PM count in the user table AND removing the invalid inbox entries in the PM table whenever I delete spam PMs from the PM text table.
uncool Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 Everything is good here. Thanks! =Uncool-
swansont Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I've still got notification for 1 unread PM, but no unread messages.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Notification as in "the annoying pop-up" or "the box in the upper right-hand corner of the page"? I need to figure out where that notification gets its data, I guess.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Ah. I think I know what caused that. I'll be more careful next time.
swansont Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Got a PM yesterday, which I read, and now the notifications box lists 1 unread PM.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Right, I've added recounting unread PMs to my to-do list for later today. This system is surprisingly fragile.
The Bear's Key Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I too am getting the "Unread Private Messages" fake out.
The Bear's Key Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) Thanks, yes Edit: oh now it's back Edited January 13, 2010 by The Bear's Key
The Bear's Key Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 It's still there, had returned promptly after you got rid of it.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Blast. I need to beat vBulletin over the head with a stick.
Mr Skeptic Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Try logging out and then logging back in. You might have an old cookie or something.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Nah, it's stored in vB's database tables. Every time I reset the counter it seems to change back. Not sure what's confusing it.
Sayonara Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 How about now? I'll need to find a way of fixing the unread PM count in the user table AND removing the invalid inbox entries in the PM table whenever I delete spam PMs from the PM text table. Alternatively you could go to the admin view for the spamming user and "Delete all messages sent by this user" after you ban them
