Hawking talk on web

not just technical

possibly worse than that

try these words in yr sentence instead of technical

obscure, speculatative,

self-indulgent, vague,

attention-getting,...

what the physics-blogs that I saw reported at the time was that

the phyiscists in the dublin audience were skeptical and

didnt think he had really explained or resolved anything and

their reaction was "I'll wait until his paper comes out."

the actual paper hasnt come out yet.

At this point there is no reason, that I know of, to suppose that Hawking has actually resolved the black hole information paradox

or that he has actually proven what he says he sees how to prove.

John Baez was at a conference with Hawking in London (Imperial College) the first week of September and Hawking was supposed to give some more convincing detail or eplanation of his presumed finding.

Baez usually reports from conferences if anything interesting happens.

Not a word from him so far. Not on sci.physics.research and not on his

blog-type web column "this week's finds"

My personal opinion is that 3 other guys, less well known, named Gambini, Porto, and Pullin, who brought out a paper on the Information Paradox earlier this year, are closer to resolving it than Hawking is. I really like their paper. Will get a link to the online preprint if you want it.

they are younger fresher minds than Hawking and look closer to getting somewhere but they are just not visible to the media
