scilearner Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 H20<------>H+ + OH- If I add H+ do I take it as increase of H+ concentration or decrease of OH- concentration and why?
Horza2002 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I think if you add H+ ions then you will get a decrease in -OH resulting from le Chatleir principle
louis wu Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 You should read about the water equilibrium constant Kw. Hydronium and hydroxide ions are always in equilibrium with molecular water.
insane_alien Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 if you add H+ you get an increase in the concentration of H+ ions. also, due to the equilibrium, you will get a decrease in OH- but the H+ will still be higherthan it was before.
