Genecks Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 It would be nice if there was a place to direct people who want to introduce themselves and say hi. I'm thinking maybe General Discussion. Possibly make a sub-board?
Klaynos Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 It would be nice if there was a place to direct people who want to introduce themselves and say hi. I'm thinking maybe General Discussion. Possibly make a sub-board? There already is a thread for it... It's stickied in GD...
Genecks Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 It would appear that not a lot of people know it is there. I could not remember that it is there. Maybe making it more apparent would be a good idea?
Phi for All Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 When a new member registers, they are directed to the Introduce Yourself sticky with a link. I don't know what more can be done without neon and some sort of remote cattle prod device. You can't force people to read. 2
Genecks Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 I didn't know that was in effect. Ok, then. W/e to those that don't post in there.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I actually don't know if it's true that members are directed to Introduce Yourself. I know the old "Welcome to SFN" automated PMs are no longer functioning, and I have no idea what system generated those... perhaps I'll hack something up to point people the right way. edit: there. Now they're directed to the rules and the Introduce Yourself thread.
Meneghin Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I joined in two days ago and I must say I agree with genecks. I have actually sent an e-mail to staff etc.. asking where is the "introduce yourself forum" located.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 When you register, you're emailed a link to the Introduce Yourself thread.
Meneghin Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 With reference to "introducing myself", I never received an e-mail. Maybe this is because I joined in as a facebook member. Since I would like to register properly and I would also like to become a fully fledged member, please instruct me as to the proper practice to follow. Thank you
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Ah, interesting, I didn't realize it wasn't sent to Facebook members. I'll have to fix that. Here's the place for introductions: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/51253-the-official-introduce-yourself-thread/
ydoaPs Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I didn't even know you could join through facebook. 1
