markhaldane Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 For those interested, a summary of the Haiti earthquake via USGS: Magnitude 7.0 Depth 13 km Located on the boundary between the Caribbean Plate and North-American Plate (left-lateral strike-slip). This boundary accomodates 20 mm/y movement. Earthquake mechanism was a left-lateral strike-slip fault on the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault system (7 mm/y movement). There is a nice poster with some maps here. Off-topic; Is this place likely to get an Earth-Sciences sub-forum anytime soon?
