ed84c Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Just a few questions I have been wondering about this site; 1. What do the mods and admin guys do? And how did they become what they are? 2. What is a 'referal' and how do you get them? (i have one but im not sure why or off who) what is the point of them? (other than to get 25 and to get a mousemat) 3. My science chat wont open it just displays a blank page, any suggestions? 4. Why do some people have 'titles' under their avitars (ive been told only admin and mod guys get them???) 5.Blike; did he/you create this site? you/ he seem(s) to be the big cheese around here? what is your position? 6. Finally a sixth question (to prevent it from being a metric no. of qs....). When did this site start up? Have any of you been here for the whole life?
Dave Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 1. Mods (and to a certain extent the admins) oversee the operation of the function and remove spam etc from the forums whilst you're all not looking. The admins maintain the site, keeping it up to date with various bugpatches etc. 2. Somewhere around here is a link saying "recommend this site to a friend". A referral is someone who joins the site after you reference them to it. 3. No idea; I thought the applet was faulty/missing? 4. They're called custom titles and only admins/mods have them atm. They're just cosmetic really. 5. I'll obviously leave that 6. I joined a couple months after it was founded. I think it was about 2 years ago in 2002.
ed84c Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 ah i see do we still get a mug if we refer 25?
blike Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Haha, I forget where that thread is. I'm still good on my word about the mug. 6. Finally a sixth question (to prevent it from being a metric no. of qs....). When did this site start up? Have any of you been here for the whole life? haha, post all the questions you want. July 2002 is when the site started. Sayonara has been here as long as I can remembe, so has JaKiri (though thats a recent incarnation of his username).
Dave Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I signed up in Nov 2002, but didn't start posting until about mid 2003 if I recall. faf scared me
ed84c Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 what about you blike, you seem to be the big cheese around here, when did you start
ydoaPs Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 No one answered the second part of the first question.
Tesseract Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 No one answered the second part of the first question. Theyre chosen numnut.
ed84c Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 aparantley they got voted in, but who voted them in? . Relating to this i shall quote a woman in an astrophysics lecture- Well Mr Penrose this is all very begiling but I know for a fact that the earth is on the back of an enormous tortouise? Penrose:Ah but what does that tourtoise stand on? Woman: Very clever, but its tourtoises all the way down........
blike Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 when did you start I've always been here And how did they become what they are? They are the chosen ones
ed84c Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 were you one of the scientists who started up the site, and is that avitar of you?
Tesseract Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 were you one of the scientists who started up the site, and is that avitar of you? Hes not a scientist he started the site and that is infact a picture of blike.
atinymonkey Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I don't know. Blike is in pre med and I'd be worried if he was approaching that with an unscientific devil may care attitude. Which reminds me, what are you going to specialise In Blike? I hear anesthesiologist’s are pretty well regarded, with the advantage of avoiding most of the mess. I was working with a girl who's following it in her 2nd year residency the other night and it sounded quite glam.
Dave Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 were you one of the scientists who started up the site, and is that avitar of you? blike's the one on the right *ducks*
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 If it weren't for people like Dave, this forum would be SO boring.
bloodhound Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 wow. blike. i never knew u were so FIT!!!! Gynocology is big this year.

I was working with a girl who's following it in her 2nd year residency the other night and it sounded quite glam. I haven't quite decided yet, but probably not anesthesiology The three fields that interest me are general surgery, internal medicine, and emergency medicine. The first two primarily because I enjoy sitting down and problem solving. I like a lot of patient interaction, so internal medicine and emergency medicine are attractive in that respect. I'll have to wait until 3rd and 4th year rotations before I can really get a handle on what specialty I fit ino best. Having never experienced any of them, I don't know. btw, what does "FIT" mean? is that in reference to dave's post or something?
Sayonara Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 btw, what does "FIT" mean? Heh heh heh... Fit = shaggable
