Freeman Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 How would I translate proper names in Latin? E.g. Alex -> Alexius, Pablo -> Pablius, Nelson -> Nelsonus, etc?
Dave Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Have a look here. There's no set way of doing it really, you just need to look up a name and see which one fits best.
Freeman Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 One last thing, I have a classical Latin-English dictionary, where would I get one which has modern Latin words? Is there one online?
Dave Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Remember, Latin is (to all extents and purposes) a dead language. You're not likely to find many (if any) modern words.
Freeman Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 Oh, yeah, defintaley (spel?); however, remember that philosophers have been keeping it alive until only a few centuries a go. I wanted to know if anyone has a list of words the philosophers added on to the classical latin. Thanks for the help so far Dave! Its helped a lot!
Dave Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I wanted to know if anyone has a list of words the philosophers added on to the classical latin. I would assume the answer is "probably not"; your best bet is probably to do a google.
