With no datum possible could it be that the reason why the universe is accelerating in its expansion be that the universe is spinning as well as expanding and thus a centrifugal force is able to overcome gravity? Although it is evident that the universe is not expanding on one plane could this be because we are still at the initial stage of the start of the universe. An oval shape might develop.

This subject is way over my head, I was just thinking aloud. If the experts can't sort it then perhaps thinking outside of the box might work. I'm sure there are lots of ideas why this thought can't be right but by approaching it from the other direction ie to try and make it fit then perhaps it might snowball and gain plausability. But of coarse the idea must challenged and dissmissed if rubbish. Bring on an expert but keep the language simple please.

I'm not saying your idea is rubbish. I understand why you would think that centrifugal force might cause the universe to expand. I'm just saying that your theory is incorrect based on certain laws of physics. Let me give you an example to explain how centripetal and centrifugal forces work.

A car is driving in a circle. Centripetal force accelerates the car towards the center of the circle, which causes the car's velocity to always be tangent to the circle. Centrifugal force is a pseudoforce, which is felt by someone in the car. This is your inertia, or resistance to change in velocity, but it is not actually pulling you away from the center of the circle.

This is why centrifugal force can't be the reason for the universe's accelerating expansion.

It would be better if instead of complaining about people destroying your theory, you backed it up with some science, or created a new theory based on your old theory and what you have learned from other people's constructive criticism. I'm going to analyze the rest of your theory to help you improve it.

the universe is spinning

This is an interesting idea and is possible. Supposedly there is a black hole in the center of our galaxy, and it is possible that there is a cluster of black holes in the center of our universe, which would cause all the galaxies to orbit around it.

Although it is evident that the universe is not expanding on one plane could this be because we are still at the initial stage of the start of the universe. An oval shape might develop.

This is unlikely. I see no reason for the galaxies on one plane to accelerate away from the center of the universe faster than the galaxies on another plane.

If you find a way to make your ideas fit, let me know, and by the way, it's just as important to find problems with a theory as it is to find their solutions.

EDIT: In case you don't know, centripetal force is any force that accelerates an object in motion towards the center of a circle.

I think this site is a great opportunity to think aloud however unqualified in the subject one might be. Thank you all for putting me right on my idea.

OK, let’s try a new theory. If my next theory has already been suggested (I would be surprised if it hasn’t) sorry for wasting your time.

Me – Completely unqualified in this subject, so I am free to present my theory without embarrassment.

Lets put all matter and energy under a heading and call it Positive. Lets call the vacuum of space the empty bits Zero. Now let’s call beyond the universe Negative, which seems to be rather appropriate. Now with all things wanting to be equal, an equilibrium between positive and negative is expected, creating Zero and thus more space, the expanding Universe. I conclude that this natural desire for equilibrium may be sufficient to overcome gravity.

Should I stick to my day job?

In anticipation.

To those who have a one word reply to my last sentence - Cheers.

I do appreciate you taking your time to add to my thoughts, also please excuse my humour.

Another Random Thought of my mind,

Lets imagine space as dough

When we spin the dough at high speeds it starts to expand, just like a chef rotates the pizza dough to make it larger.

Since the dough is getting thinner, the rate at which it expands keeps getting more (cosmic scale factor)

Now image our galaxies as raisins on the dough being drifted apart due to stretching.

Gravity is the force preventing dough from getting thin and keeping stuff together.

Time could be explained the process of space being stretched. The faster the space is stretched the faster the time passes by.

Since gravity has kept the dough thick, it takes more time for everything to move in it, hence slowing the passage of time.

The accepted theory suggests otherwise that gravity stretches space-time causing photons to travel longer distance with same speed hence decreasing passage of time.

But imagine photons traveling much more distance(unstretchable space) with slower/same speed to cause decrease in passage of time.
