5614 Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 i once heard about a quantum coral, and something like, it was made up of 48 iron atoms,,,,,, i think....... well, im sure of what i just said, but other than that, i dont know anything about it,.. does anyone know anything? more info. would be nice? there was also a picture of it, it looked sooo cool, hard to describe though, like a mix between the surface of a liquid, when something is dropped into it and a coral! [so descriptive] and google search is useless, it comes up with loads of medical stuff, thats not what i saw! HELP..... what is this mystery thing....
YT2095 Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 as you already asked me in PM, it sounds from your vague description like Ferrofluid, do a googley search. also: Have some patients! don`t make a post them PM a Moderator with the same question just because no one answered for a few hours, it denies others info and ties up valuable time on the part of moderators!
[Tycho?] Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 Hey, I found this great site, really good for finding things. http://www.google.com
5614 Posted August 3, 2004 Author Posted August 3, 2004 tycho, thanks for nothing, did u really just find that site? how old are u... were have u been for the past 5 years!, and no a google search for quantum coral, does not give me what i want!
phishery Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 I was explaining this phenomenon to my wife and recalled the same article I beleive you are referring to. Research: http://www.almaden.ibm.com/almaden/media/mirage.html Images: http://www.almaden.ibm.com/almaden/media/image_mirage.html
DQW Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 We were talking about this, just the other day. http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12925&page=2 The idea is to create standing waves within an enclosure. By making the enclosure be shaped like an ellipse, you make the amplitude of the standing waves be very high at the foci of the ellipse. This leads to some very neat effects like the appearance of a Kondo resonance at an unoccupied focus. This observation has lead to some speculation about a possible application as a data transfer mechanism over nanoscale distances. You'd have had better hits if you Googled "Quantum Corral", I guess ! Here's a few more links : http://www.almaden.ibm.com/almaden/media/image_mirage.html http://www.almaden.ibm.com/almaden/media/mirage5.html http://www.almaden.ibm.com/almaden/media/mirage2.html Edit : Oops, just realized this thread is a year old ! Sorry !
5614 Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 Edit : Oops, just realized this thread is a year old ! Sorry ! No problem at all, it is startling just how clearly I remembered the whole Quantum Coral thing! Thanks.
