abbyabbigail Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Predict whether an aqueous solution of each salt produces a solution with a pH >7, <7, or = 7. If the pH >7 or <7, write an equation that justifies your prediction. SALT: AlCl3, K3PO4, Na2SO4, Ca(CH3CO2)2:doh:
Phi for All Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Is this for homework? Can you show us what you've got so far?
abbyabbigail Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 I got this: AlCl3 pH=7 AlCL3 + H2O ----> AlOH^- + H^+ K3PO4 pH>7 K3PO4 + H2O -----> HPO4 + OH^- Na2SO4 pH>7 Na2SO4 + H2O ----> HSO4 + OH^- Ca(CH3CO2)2 pH>7 Ca(CH3CO2)2 + H2O -----> CH3CO2 + OH^-
TheDrBraniac Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Oh my... The numbers are driving me crazy. Are you supposed to derive the no. of hydrogen atoms, taking it over a unit volume and multiplying it by a negative logarithm? Alkalies and acids when mixed together form a neutral salt, right? That is pH7. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedOh yeah, sorry for diverting from the topic. You're on the right track anyway.
