Martin Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 looks good to me the thought occurred to me that the "active users" thingyjigger may have been fixed. the information in it has already lasted 20 minutes, which is less leaky than it was before IIRC when you are at home then the menubar at top should have a "forums" to click on so that one sees immediately where to click to get to the main index of forums I like reading math-forum (with dave as moderator, who does an excellent job). anyway this is a good forum and posts/day is rising and some smart people (visible in math forum) are joining so it could be in for some growth----as you all probably know so why bother say it
Sayonara Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 the thought occurred to me that the "active users" thingyjigger may have been fixed. the information in it has already lasted 20 minutes, which is less leaky than it was before IIRC It's based on the sessions that members begin when they log in. Default session expiry is after 20 mins, so unless you log out (i.e. if you browse off somewhere else or close the window) the server will assume your session is still open for up to 20 minutes. Most web sites use this method due to the nature of sessions.
Martin Posted August 6, 2004 Author Posted August 6, 2004 just to make clear (in case anyone's within earshot) what we're discussing there is this little "most ever online" register which at 12:28 PM (GMT-8) was set to say like "61 users at 12:28" and now it is 1:09 PM or around a halfhour later and it still says 61 users because we havent yet topped that mark. if that thingy is working properly it will keep the high-water mark recorded forever until it is surpassed----and maybe it is working now but it wasnt yesterday [edit: yeah, I just checked again, now it has been 40 minutes and the thing still reads "Most users ever online was 68, Today at 12:28 PM." So it may be that someone----Blike?----has fixed the thing. If so, I'm glad. It has been bothering me that it read inaccurate info for the past few weeks. Blike mentioned in one of his posts a while back that he knew it was broken that when he had time he would fix it. So I suppose it was him did it.]
Sayonara Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 When you said "active users" thingyjigger I thought you were talking about the "who's online" box.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 Also it appears to me that the background has changed, but apparently nobody else had it happen.
blike Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 then the menubar at top should have a "forums" to click on sothat one sees immediately where to click to get to the main index of forums Yea, I was noticing that too. I'll fix it when I get home later.
Martin Posted August 7, 2004 Author Posted August 7, 2004 Yea, I was noticing that too. I'll fix it when I get home later. blike thanks for fixing the "most users ever online" benchmark thingy that is a real improvement!
Dave Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Yes, it looks a heck of a lot better now. And thanks for the compliment Martin
