Hey, can anyone help me understand finding an degrees of an angle in a triangle? and how to use it to find the other sides, etc. Does anyone know of anyways to learn trig easy?

thanx

Not easily. Exactly what do you want to know and what do you currently know? From there myself and other members could probably give a crash course. To learn stuff well, though, you're going to have to sit down with someone who knows it and just talk for a while.

Well i know th basics of trig like a2 = b2 + c2, and how to work out if they are a right angled triangle,hmmmm. im abit ummm confused about the sin, cos, tan etc. :confused:

thanx :D

You can always find the degrees of an angle in a triangle with a protractor...OK, that was mean. What exactly is confusing you about the sine, cosine and tangent?

If so then you probably know nothing about trigonometry yet.

There is this huge list of BASIC trigo formulae, which involve sin cos and tan that can help solve 99% of all problems.

For a start check out the sine rule and cosine rule (That should solve your problem).

If you're confused about sine/cosine, I suggest you tackle pretty basic questions before you move onto the more advanced stuff like the sine/cosine rules.

sine= opposite/hypotenuse

cosine= adjacent/hypotenuse

tangent= opposite/adjacent

cosecant= hypotenuse/opposite

secant= hypotenuse/adjacent

cotangent= adjacent/opposite

in quadrant 1, all are positive

in quadrant 2, sin and csc are positive

in quadrant 3, tan and cot are positive

in quadrant 4, cos and sec are positive

Easy way that I remember it:

SOH CAH TOA

sine= opposite/hypotenuse

cosine= adjacent/hypotenuse

tangent= opposite/adjacent

For remebering which are positive use CAST method.

Just remember when writing Cast to start with C in QUAD IV and work counter-clockwise.

.....S......|.......A

.............|

________|_________

.............|

.....T......|.......C

.............|

(My best attempt at illustrating what I mean lol)

Where :

C - cos are Positive

A - All are Positive

S - sin are Positive

T - tan are Positive

Hopefully that makes a little bit of sense. It's what I used to help me remember.

yea but you forgot csc, sec, and cot

here is an easy way

sin is opposite of csc. cos is opposite of sec. tan is opposite of cot

Posted

Ah, forgot about that.

For csc, cot and sec I use:

SYR CXR TYX (sir coxer ticks)

Where:

Y is the Y-Axis,

X is the X-Axis,

R is the Hypotenuse

That is when using a Quad Plane of course. Or you could use yourdadonapogos way which is just as easy (or easier).

use my way with the cast system. remember that opposites are the same as thier counterparts when it comes to the cast sysem.
