MolecularMan14 Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Why not have a "How-to" section. That way, we can have a whole lot of topics all very organized. And Im sure that YT would have a whole bunch of cool project ideas
5614 Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 it is too general its also similar to engineering and also computery things go under computers, a bit under physics and the rest engineering (and of course some chem stuff) which is under! not really NEEDED. i still think that electronics section would be highly useful... even now, that radio thread, it could be under electronics.
MolecularMan14 Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 true, we have some sort of electronics thread, but I still think that organizing all the "How to" threads would be useful. It could really kinda go under electronics, but we'll leave it up to some of the mods
Verusamore Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 agree with MM w/similar idea, 'How to' is a good thread ,it saves from having to sift through other threads . The idea of it being Electronics thread wouldn't be a good idea because that is the last place I look to find something which I maybe able to understand, as the field does sound a little daunting to the general. What about a new section called "The Dummies Guide " or something like that easy to understand where you don't have to filter anything to find something good to build any dummy could understand . We could use the ratings to signify the difficulty level 1 being the easiest 5 being the hardest .
Gilded Posted December 15, 2004 Posted December 15, 2004 Talking of changes, the SFN Christmas-logo is awesome. A christmas tree with epilepsy-licious strobo lights and a couple of cookies and we're all set! And talking of Christmas, perhaps we should have a holiday calendar next year, with some neat science stuff in every box. "Today YT is going to tell you how you can make it through the Christmas season of chemical experiments without blowing off ANY of your fingers!" j/k
Auk Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Why not make a page that demonstrates the top ten posters, the People's Choice poster of the month, including runner up. And maybe every year have an award that is chosen by the moderators and votes from the members to the three, five or ten best posters of the year. I would really enjoy that. And maybe a Best New Poster Award to some new guy that has an interesting opinion.
MolecularMan14 Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 well Im pretty sure we did have a member spotlight thing. But i think at this point, its still under construction
Auk Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 Great I didn't know this. It bring many joy to heart.
jordan Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 I was wondering if it was possible to reinstate the old "today's posts" link? That was the most convinient way for me to browse since I check the site about once a day.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 It shows only when you've logged out. It could be put back in in the "Quick Links" menu.
Sayonara Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Use the "new posts" link if you're logged in.
YT2095 Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Hmmm been a while since I`ve had a peek in this thread, never realised I`de been mentioned in it `till just. as for the "How To" stuff, I tell you all that anyway (where legal), it doesn`t need a specific thread for that, there`s an entire FORUM for it
jordan Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Use the "new posts" link if you're logged in. I do, but on occasion they can get marked as read without warning. I don't know why; it's not a big deal. I just thought it would be convenient to have "today's posts" when that happens since it's normaly one day's worth of posts anyway.
ecoli Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Also... new posts only have the most recent posts, not the ones for the entire day. Often times only a few posts will show up, despite many earlier posts. I say a "Today's post" section is a good idea.

That usually happens if the session times out, but I have noticed it happening randomly too on odd occassions.
jordan Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 So is it easy enough to add "today's posts" under a user's "quick links"?
Thales Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 I've been away for a while(did u miss me ), in which time the has expanded considerably, and for the better. Congrats to Sayo n the team.
yummifruitbat Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Can someone take off/increase by one the username length limit? I'm new here but if I'm going to be a regular contributor I'd prefer not to be known as Yummifruitba. The 't' is kind of important to me
Phi for All Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Can someone take off/increase by one the username length limit? I'm new here but if I'm going to be a regular contributor I'd prefer not to be known as Yummifruitba. The 't' is kind of important to me So you want me to change it to yummifruitbar, right?
yummifruitbat Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 So you want me to change it to yummifruitbar, right? meh
Phi for All Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Omnipotence is not mine. I have many phenomenal cosmic powers, but I can't change your user name. I have PM'd an Admin about this and He will respond. Did you want yummifruitbat capitalized, while we're at it?
yummifruitbat Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Ooh, now we're talking... ah, go on then I've noticed that actually quite a few people have names longer than 12 characters - is there actually a limit in place or was something just a bit screwy when I signed up? (and no, it's not a typo - it kept stopping at 'a')
Phi for All Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 It could be set up where members after a certain date had to have 12 characters or less. I know the avatar max has changed from 100 x 100 to 75 x 75. Older members can keep them, but if they change avatars, they must use new size restrictions. Have you considered Yummiredbat, or Yummigraybat? I know everyone would get a kick out of talking to the Yummiyumabat! Sorry, just trying to soften the blow if 12 is max.
yummifruitbat Posted February 2, 2005 Posted February 2, 2005 Yay! Cheers Phi & whichever Admin it was... I feel complete
