ldzman218uknome Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I am currently doing a project on how Religion affects Happiness, and in order to obtain the widest data sample possible, I have posted my survey on this, and several other blogs. Please take five minutes out of your obviously not busy lifes to fill out the form, and email me the results. Any format (Word, Adobe, etc.) is acceptable, as long as it is legible. Zolar V Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 i would believe that the anwer is quite simple. Yes, religion does affect happiness. dependent on your religious belief because as a child your parents instill morals based upon the religion. Your happiness is dependent on how you react to your morals.
Atomicfool Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Yes religion does effect happiness.... my simple conculsion would be that when a person practices his particular religion it gives him a sort of inner happiness and when he does something against his religion his conscience eats him making him sad. but this affects only the people who believe in the religion they follow.

Kikis Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) yes..religion affect to happiness. when we have nothing... the religion still stay in our believe , guide us through the darkness day into the light of tomorrow Edited April 3, 2011 by Kikis
John Cuthber Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 "yes..religion affect to happiness. when we have nothing" It's God's fault. "What is your attitude toward Atheism? Accepting Dislike Extreme dislike Murderous hate" You missed out boundless love as an option. I presume this is due to personal bias on your part. A questionnaire designed to elicit information should be written in such a way as to avoid that sort of bias. Since this one doesn't, the data from it will be of questionable value. 1
Marat Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Just as adults are generally less happy than children, because they are honestly confronting all the difficult uncertainties of human existence with none of the reassuring myths of infancy, so too religious believers are happier than atheists, as most polls suggest. But a more essential question is, who wants the happiness of being naive? If the price of being a fully conscious human is direct confrontation with existentialism's unsolvable challenges, then that is a price worth paying for being completely awake to reality.

mooeypoo Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 ! Moderator Note As always, religious discussions go to the Religion forum.Topic moved to its rightful place.
Marat Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 It is also worth noting that since correlation is not causality, the poll presented in this thread cannot prove what it purports to test. Even if a strong correlation is found between being happy and being religious, that does not prove that being religious makes people happy, since being happy may instead dispose people to being religious, given that tragedies often make people lose their faith. Also, since being naive or unintelligent can profoundly dull the capacity for critical perception, the same obtuseness which makes people deliriously happy in a world full of existential misfortune may also allow them to accept uncritically the dubious assertions of religious dogma.
