raivo Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 I found in old mineralogy book such kind of testing: take 3 parts of NaCO3 and one part of some unknown minerale that may be SiO2 or FeCr2O4 for example or some other inert oxide. Mix, heat as long as it melts and it turns into something that can be solved in acids for furter testing. Can anyone explain what exactly happens and what the product is.
budullewraagh Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 NaCO3 don't you mean Na2CO3 rather than NaCO3?
raivo Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 Of course this was Na2CO3. I was rather tired yesterday I still want someone to explain what happens and what does not hapen when one heats mixture of soda and some oxide mineral.
YT2095 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 lol, it sounds you`ve got part of the recipe for soda glass there
