Caleb Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 In this video, it shows some caesium in water. But in this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCk0lYB_8c0&feature=related, it says caesium in water is like setting off a bomb in water. Which one is more correct? Is caesium that reactive?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I believe the Brainiac people faked it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2006/jul/15/badscience.uknews But what really happened? Deep Throat (OK, Brainiac's Dr Bunhead, aka Tom Pringle) claims: "Absolutely bloody nothing. The density of caesium ensured it hit the bottom of the bath like a lead weight. The sheer volume of water then drowned out the thermal shock-wave I was expecting to shatter the bath. They could not go home empty handed. So they rigged a bomb in the bottom of the bath and then blew the shit out of it. I must say it did look cool ... [it] ate away at my conscience. But I couldn't do anything about it."
UC Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 http://theodoregray.com/periodictable/AlkaliBangs/index.html Ta-da! There are real cesium and rubidium + water videos linked from that page.
