Ice_Phoenix87 Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 where could i get some electrolysis equipment? can i make it at home? thanx Ice_Phoenix
TheBigDino Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Easily, just find some batteries, preferbally 6 volts, 2 metal conductor and you are away. by the way, what are you trying to do it to?
budullewraagh Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 if you want effective electrolysis i would strongly suggest a car battery and copper conductors. beware- you will find that the molten metals fly out in little balls. if you don't use something too powerful, however, the metal will appear and mix with your molten salt. if it's an alkali metal, it will most definately oxidize before you can even notice it exists.
YT2095 Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 buy some carbon rods from a welding shop, they`re inert for most all electrolysis and will have no effect on the finished product, whereas metals will/can (even platinum!). you`ll need a variable voltage supply also, as many electrolytic procs need the voltage be at a certain level for correct operation IE: Chlorate/Perchlorate cells. and then some sturdy glass or plastic ware is always a good thing to have by, even if it`s just some old Mason jars
