I think the same goes for most fields in physics...

 

I mostly agree with that. At least once should be able to say something about the area one works in, maybe some motivation, where your work sits in the overall scheme of thing, but it can be very difficult to say much about precisely what one is doing. The more theoretical and mathematical the work becomes the harder it is to communicate this successfully.

 

I certainly commend for discussing fluid mechanics with a journalist, a fashion designer and a fine arts major. :D
