TheDarkestNight Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I was wondering what if there was a man that could live forever. Would he evolve?
insane_alien Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 no. evolution works over generations of a species, not on an individual.
iNow Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 He could, however, reproduce... and the having of offspring (as IA rightly stated) is where evolution makes its mark.
Mr Skeptic Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 no. evolution works over generations of a species, not on an individual. Not necessarily. Evolution can happen within a second, such as an instantaneous event that kills off a certain subset of individuals in a species and changes their allele frequencies. iNow Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Not necessarily. Evolution can happen within a second, such as an instantaneous event that kills off a certain subset of individuals in a species and changes their allele frequencies. Even then, though, the individual still won't evolve.
