deltanova Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 in a large scale quarry, cutting and dressing one 2.5 tonne block per 2 mins, how plausable is it to use copper tools?
YT2095 Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 it`s possible, but copper being a relatively soft metal would need alot of regular looking after and repairs. steel would be a better choice
deltanova Posted August 27, 2004 Author Posted August 27, 2004 hmm, but there was no steel around, iron or otherwise,
YT2095 Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 you never specified a time index or era though I though it was just a question.
YT2095 Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 that`s a little before my time, but yes it would be possible to do, although I don`t know about the 2 minute thing, it would still take alot of manpower and bodies to get anywhere near aproaching that sort of efficiency, and a good percentage would be have to be there to mend the copper tools regularly. this isn`t an informed answer, it`s based solely upon logicistic and a knowledge of the materials used.
deltanova Posted August 27, 2004 Author Posted August 27, 2004 i understand that, and thanks loads for your help,
jsatan Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 With as much time on your hands as you had back then you can make anything, lol. Must of been boring.
123rock Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 I thought the Iron Age began 1250BCE The Romans and other peoples certainly had steel swords by 400BC
deltanova Posted September 19, 2004 Author Posted September 19, 2004 yeah, but no large amount of steel tools has been found from the time of the pyramids, around the 4th centuryBCE And they had less time on their hands than us, we have technology to do loads of stuff for us, as time goes on we get layzyer.
coquina Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 If your speaking of the Pyramid at Giza - it's a lot older - estimated at 2500 years BCE, http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/egyptians/gateway_eternity_02.shtml Metallic ages: http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/I/IronA1ge.asp Explanation of pyramid building technique: http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/material.htm
