iNow Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Would you equally reject the building of a christian church on any of those sites? The question I tried to ask above is, where is that line? Where do we stop? Is two blocks away okay? What about 4 blocks away? What about outside the county? What about outside the state? What about no where in the country? Where do you stop? I'll tell you where you stop. You stop at the suggestion itself. There's no good reason not to build a mosque near the arc or near the parliment building or near the opera house. I, too, stand firmly against religion, and I too stand firmly against what the KKK espouses, but at some point I'm going to destroy my own freedoms in an attempt to restrict theirs. If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. ~James Madison America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. ~Abraham Lincoln How far can you go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without? ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
rigney Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) 'Now', Not trying to be controversial but, Yes I would object. To build a Church, Mosque Synagog, or Whore House on any of these beautiful sites just because you have the bucks to do so, is ludicrous. There is a beautiful Mosque on West 130st. in Cleveland just east of me. While I've never been inside, it is a fabulous structure. But then, rarely do I go inside many other churches. Am I anti Muslim? If you can read into my verbiage, you know that I have biases. My only draw back to Muslim Religion is that I don't agree with their dictates of Sharia Law. This handbook of laws is in total conflict with our state and national laws. To me this will eventually be a real problem. The Morman Religion was on the same path a hundred and fifty years ago as Islam is today. But the Mormans didn't have such a stringent loyalty doctrine and finally conformed to becoming citizens of America without being belligerent. I can't believe this will ever happen with Islam. Zolar V Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Couldn't there be a compramise; Some sort of multi-faith memorial? A Churmoscagogue no, i don't want any religion to be put there, not even if it is a building for all religions. my reason is because it was religion that caused this , the difference between christian and Muslim. IMO they should just build a memorial, like the wall of thousand names (for Vietnam) or something like that. A real memorial, simple stones carved with the events that transpired, the reaction, and the deceased.
jackson33 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 rigney; I think most all posters, after -x- number of post divulge more and more about themselves. Since retirement I've lived in OKC and Hobbs, NM and in my working career been to every State, and Country in North America more than a few times and had business ventures in four, a very good deal in or around Austin, Texas. If I recall Lakewood (west Cleveland) correctly it's rather well known to be a retirement area. I'm not going to check out Zoning Laws for your suggested sites or Cleveland, most metropolitan areas short of Houston Texas (not sure is still) have them and there will be more than one authority involved when getting a permit to build anything, anyplace. I understand your opinions on Welfare, but what your not considering is the source for it as SEEN today. We now have 2nd, 3rd and maybe some 4th generations of people that literally known nothing else. In fact having watched this issue closely, trying in many cases to employ those that receive welfare, it's simply to lucrative to refuse or take a job. While I'm on this and being in the same position you should be, anybody on SS/Medicare and receiving monthly checks over 7-8 years or used Medicare, has long gone on welfare. All the money I paid into SS or other payroll taxes totaled -$x- (a good share at the limits), add in what those dollars should have drawn in interest if you like (drew nothing), but it won't come close to what you have been paid in those 7-8 years or in our cases, many more years. Once you passed the point of what we paid in then, is at the cost of someone else and welfare. Well, you don't have to be a "bigot" to opposed another's philosophy. I'm not particularly happy with Obama, but it's not his religion beliefs (whatever that is) or his color, but am opposed to his 'Socialistic' policy as I perceive them, just as I oppose Biden, Polosi and Reid. Do you get the point? On your later post; In some ways I agree with you, in that it's difficult to split the association of Imam's and their flock, but in the US neither is of importance, until a law has been broke. I'll also add, Mormons as in the 'Latter Day Saints', in order to gain Statehood in the late 19th Century rejected polygamy in there Constitution. Segments are still around FLDS or TLDS (Fundamentalist/Traditionalist) are all over the Western US/Canada/Mexico, living not too much different than they originally did, but I'm not aware of any of them causing havoc around the world...
rigney Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) My esophagus will probably close over, but I'm gonna give you a "Big Amen" on just about everything you related to jackson33'. 'Course, us Hill Billys have our pride, so don't get carried away. Ain't it something though, I'm over the hill, but have never received anything from the government other than S.S., which in all honesty I would "GLADLY", quote; "GLADLY" return if I could be assured it would go to some poor slob who has worked his a-- off an entire life time and still not able to get aboard. Spent my entire career in missiles and the automotive industry. Yes! I do get a stipend from the local group, but a suppliment not even large enough for another humans needs. Ask my wife!!. Appreciate your input, but never thought for a minute I was giving away my age as someone over thirty?? Give me a private buzz any time. might be nice just talking to someone with a load of experience, so to speak? Almost anything else, I keep forgetting??! PS. My older brothers daughter is a Physics Professor @ the University of N.M. in Albuequarque after spending several years at the Hanford Site in Washington. I have no idea where the brain power came from?? Socialistic policies? Do you recall by chance an insane and maniacle madman who brought the world, KristollNacht? Or the other "Nut Case" from Russia? who did him even better? How soon we forget! Edited June 16, 2010 by rigney
