Compacttricks Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Hi Just signed up to this awesome site. Was wondering if you needed some kind of certification to purchase chemicals from suppliers? Thanks.
jdurg Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 You need to certify that you are an industrial, or educational institution. Wholesale chemical supplier will not sell directly to individuals. Too much liability on their part. As a result, your only option is to buy from sellers who purchased their supply from the wholesale suppliers. That results in an increased charge to get the product as those companies need to make money to stay alive. (http://www.unitednuclear.com is an example of this).
Compacttricks Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 Ok thanks for the help and the link for the website, looks interesting. I'm guessing chemicals are not sold in elemental form. Deadly properties an all that. EDIT; My mistake some chemical elements are on the list.
Arthur Dent Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 ...I'm guessing chemicals are not sold in elemental form.... I'll refer you to this thread: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6679 Where you'll find resources of companies that specialize in selling elements of the periodic table. There are also members on this thread who collect such elements and might have "spares" for trade and sale. Robert
Compacttricks Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Thanks robert The RGB site looks interesting but what about gaseous elements?
Arthur Dent Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Try this: http://www.elementsales.com/pl_element.htm#hh They have most gases sealed in ampoules, except for fluorine, that really can't be kept for long periods in any kind of transparent container because it's simply too corrosive. But for noble gases, a small quantity in a sealed tube with electrodes could be used as a small "neon" showing what color the gas glows when it's ionized. Robert
