insane_alien Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 schrodingers cat isn't a paradox. and it has nothing to do with conciousness
jimmydasaint Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I think you need to do some further reading 'beyond': One can even set up quite ridiculous cases. A cat is penned up in a steel chamber, along with the following diabolical device (which must be secured against direct interference by the cat): in a Geiger counter there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small that perhaps in the course of one hour one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges and through a relay releases a hammer which shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid. Schrodinger's cat What is consciousness? Some philosophers have contended that "qualia," or an experiential medium from which consciousness is derived, exists as a fundamental component of reality. Whitehead, for example, described the universe as being comprised of "occasions of experience." To examine this possibility scientifically, the very nature of physical reality must be re-examined. We must come to terms with the physics of space-time--as is described by Einstein's general theory of relativity Penrose Hameroff Consciousness Model
Johanluus Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 i was wondering if schrodingers cat (paradox) would be classified as consciousness.. just classifying consciousness is the real question
swansont Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 As insane_alien has indicated, the cat experiment is/would not be not a test of consciousness, and the nature of consciousness isn't a physics question.
