seouldavid Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8767763.stm This is about Earth's gravity level newly released. Reading this article, I have a question: If a person who is living in a region of gravity level 100 (from the map at the article) moves to a region of gravity level -100, is it possible for the person to feel the subtle change in gravity level?
AlphaSheeppig Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 If you could build a hypothetical tower that's perfectly strong and rigid from here to the point where you start encountering low earth orbit satellites, and you stood at the top of the tower, you'd feel only 5% less gravity, and you probably wouldn't even notice that... These changes are minute...
D H Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Very, very minute. That -100 meter level in the geoid height to south of India represents a reduction of about 0.006% in gravitational acceleration compared to the nominal level for that latitude.
