jackson33 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Pardon me, but if I hear one more time that we cant deport 12 million illegal aliens Im headed for the backyard to howl at the moon. Is the American memory so short that weve already forgotten the 1950s? This writer is old enough to remember very clearly the mass deportation of illegal aliens that occurred in 1954 in what was officially termed Operation Wetback (prior to the age of political correctness).[/Quote] http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/history/american/4011-deporting-illegal-immigrants rigney and for that matter myself come from a different period in time. The above article pretty well tells the story of how THIS issue was handled, apparently quite successfully, by President Eisenhower. This thread titled 'Politics and illegal's, Politics has not been addressed and in my opinion the cause and effect of the entire current situation. While I can't and don't condone the idea of 'Mass Deportations', for countless reasons, if the Mexico/US border was "controlled" (operative word), CURRENT laws enforced, and getting Federal Politics out of the picture, this could be resolved with out much effort. Register, play some word games like fining, time of residency or learning English, but go back the end of a real line (Est. time to Citizenship 50-60 years), no voting or any other privilege, other than what they earn, SS/Medicare possible if taxes had been being paid to date of registering or the required quarter afterward and with in those limitations. In addition, 'Anchor Baby Law' should be challenged, laws changed, and any aid offered to people not legally in the Country billed to their Country of origin, assistance is afforded, or insurance and/or a responsible sponsor (already required for Green Cards) should be required for any person in the Country illegally to stay in the Country. Most of the past 55 years, I've lived, worked and been involved with the Latino Community, I am this day, as was my Mother, who was born in Naco, Arizona and her parents never got north of Tucson, My parents retired to Green Valley (30 miles north of the Mexico border) in the early 70's, a fledgling retirement community. They left there in the early 90's (though in their 80's) for reasons now coming to light, moving to Austin, Texas. I don't come at this issue lightly, but I firmly believe at least 75-80% of the legal Latinos would agree, with much I say... 1
CharonY Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I am pretty sure few would have problems with wanting to secure borders and maybe adjusting immigration laws. Or at least streamline them. However, I assume that many, including myself to use "immigrants are dangerous" kind of imagery (including the implications in the OP). Personally I think it distracts from the important points and is a simply a misrepresentation of facts (as statistics show). There are other, better reasons why a country wants to regulate their borders. Of course they do not sell as well. Also there are two distinct points to address. One is controlling the influx of illegal immigrants and the second is what to do with those that are already here (especially those with no roots anywhere else).

I quote Charony: (Especially those with no roots anywhere else) unquote -- What does that statement suppose to imply? And who said that immigrants were dangerous? No where in my statement were those words ever used. Hells fire, we are all decendants of hopefully, legal immigrants. That is, unless your heritage dates back fifteen unblemished generations or more. But now I will say it with a venom, Quote: "I hope, no not hope; I pray the soothesaying milk sop groups crying out to allow this travesty, will be the first to feel the impact of such a debacle should it continue. Unquote: by Rigney I only used the words "illegal aliens". Why should you jump to the conclusion that they came from;;; where?? ///////////////////////////// One of you have previously read the following short essay. Fact is, it's the primise on which this "legal alien" continues trying to become an American citizen. Sir, I entered U.S legally and have tried to maintain my legal status ever since. I am aware of the circumstances where immigrants miss their hearings on purpose to delay proceedings. I missed one such hearing last year. I certainly did not intend it. It was a genuine case of lack of notice of the hearing. I received an order of deportation in absentia. I appealed and it is currently pending in the Board of Immigration appeals. I am married to a U.S resident (who recently received her Green Card) and have a baby daughter almost 2 years old. I could easily have married a U.S citizen and gotten my status adjusted in no time, fraudulently. But I loved my then girl-friend and waited (and am still waiting...its been 8 years). Sometimes I can not sleep at night, dreading the time if and when I am 'suddenly' separated from my child. I have nothing but appreciation for the U.S and having come from a place where I believe the society is rotten, know and love what the United States is. I understand your point. I just don't know what am I going to do if I am separated from my baby. I am not selfish enough to ask or force my wife to move to a rotten place. I have lived responsibly ever since I landed here. I paid all taxes and even created a few jobs. I don't expect the Law to consider all that or my record here. I am left only with appeals to the human conscience. I will not be able to live with out my baby. God Bless 1
