Encrypted Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 Hello, I have a simple question for you: What comes first, Energy or Force? Encrypted
jordan Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 When? Do you have a specific example you're thinking of or do you mean in general? If the latter, I would imagine energy has to come first as it doesn't really ever go anywhere and come back, just changes forms.
Martin Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 Hello' date=' I have a simple question for you: What comes first, Energy or Force? Encrypted[/quote'] the challenge is to make the question meaningful-----definite enough to have an answer energy and force are human concepts, so one could ask which came first historically they are also defined by humans to be measurable *quantities* which means that we have standards----like joule, newton, kilowatthour, poundforce. calorie----to measure them by to ask which of two types of quantity comes first......maybe that means which is the more primitive quantity, in terms of which the other is defined. like: force is more primitive or more basic than pressure because pressure is force per unit area. you must first standardize force and have a unit for that (newton) before you can standardize pressure and get a pressure unit(newton per square meter) ------------------------------------- I think your question is most interesting if it is interpreted to be a question about which is the more basic quantity, force or energy. In fact energy is standardized based on force. root idea of energy is ability to do work and most primitive units of energy are units of work-----force x distance a joule (metric unit of work/energy) is a newtonmeter----a newton force applied for unit distance a footpound (english unit of work/energy) is a poundforce applied for unit distance So force is more basic (in metrology sense)
5614 Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 force has to come first, the force makes the energy such as man pushes object. [you wanted a what came 1st chicken or egg thread, i dont think you will get it ]
