Sadly scholars are not the people in pulpits asserting the end times as described in the bible are coming true, I've heard many of the things in revelations being claimed as proof of our us living in The End Times. The assertion of The End Times is one of the most often repeated threats used to keep the flock into line, little kids seem to be most terrified by these claims. There used to be a large series of small pamphlets that were passed out by fundamentalist religious groups making claims about the end of the world being near as described in Revelations but the idea of global warming being aligned with Revelations of 16:8 doesn't seem to be as popular as the rest of Revelations semi quoted in the little pamphlets often left in restrooms across the country, the idea of our civilization being destroyed by revelations 16:8 doesn't seem to come up while other somewhat less obvious ones often do...

No, I don't think it does predict global warming. If you look at Revelation 16:9,

They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.

It seems like the increase in temperature was more dramatic than that seen by global warming. Since as far as I know know has been seared by the sun due to global warming.

Like Ydoaps said Revelations can be interpreted as social commentary in which case any type of prediction really would not make sense.

For Revelation 16:8 to mean global warming, the other three angels should have already done their things: sores on those who have the mark of the beast, everything in the sea dies as it turns to blood, and rivers and springs become blood. Only after those occur will the Earth be scorched with fire.

Oil spills.

If you're determined enough, you can rationalize anything.

The Bible specifically says "like blood," so oil is disqualified. There are quite a few other signs mentioned as happening earlier in Revelation: a two-horned speaking-dragon beast arising from the earth that causes fire to rain to earth; worshipers of the beast get branded on their right hand or forehead; and so on.
